I copied the following from Wikipedia, this is what they have on Watchdog journalism. The concept that the press is there to look out for us. They’re there to show us what’s happening around us so we can be informed and make decisions.
Watchdog journalism informs the public about goings-on in institutions and society, especially in circumstances where a significant portion of the public would demand changes in response. This might involve:
- Fact-checking statements of public officials
- Interviewing public figures and challenging them with problems or concerns
- Beat reporting to gather information from meetings members of the public might not otherwise attend, and to observe “on the ground” in broader society
- Investigative journalism, which involves information-gathering on a single story for a long period of time
Like a literal guard dog that barks when it notices an intruder, a “watchdog” role involves alerting others when a problem is detected. Common subjects are the government decision-making process, illegal activity, immorality, consumer protection issues, and environmental degradation.
Watchdog journalism can be located in a variety of news media, such as radio, television, Internet, and print media where it may be seen as “a unique strength of newspapers”, and additional new media and concepts such as weblogs and citizen journalism. Watchdog journalists also are called “watchmen” “agents of social control”, or “moral guardians”.
My favorite line in this definition is “alerting others when a problem is detected.” The main stream media has no idea that they have become the problem. Their fact checking is twisted toward the candidates they favor, they color their news with their own opinion and present their opinion as fact. They np longer even try to hide the fact that they are biased. They are clearly open about it.
I copied Wikipedia’s definition of Credibility as well.
The focus is believability of the source of information. Recent polls show that the voters have little faith that the main stream media is believable any more. Both sides have trouble believing the media at all. The main stream media has a clear bias to the left and a soft spot for all democrats and liberal caused, but even the liberal voters have a very low opinion of the media.
By pushing their opinions as facts for so long they have created a situation where they are no longer credible. Very few people have a lot of faith in them anymore.
Credibility is important in life; our public figures have lost that years ago. Our government officials and politicians have lost their credibility as soon as the public watch dog stopped looking out for us. Candidates for office tell us lies and misrepresent the truth because they get away with it. The press is no longer fair and impartial. At some point someone started to use the term undocumented aliens. That’s a harmless term to describe illegal aliens. No one challenged them so it became the norm. Undocumented means illegal and are subject to the penalties of the law.
Someone started to say that the rich aren’t paying their fair share. What is their fair share? The rich make a lot of money they should pay more than they do.
I borrowed a quote from Stephen Moore that was published in the Washington Times
By Stephen Moore – – Sunday, March 1, 2015 Washington Times
Suppose there were a banquet for 100 people and at the end of the night it was time to split the bill of $50 per person. If that bill were paid for the way we pay our income taxes, here is how it would work. Those in the top half of income would pay roughly $97 each and those in the bottom half of the income would pay an average of $3 each. Almost 40 people would pay nothing. And the single richest person in the room would cough up $1,750.
Liberals would complain that the cheap skate rich guy got away without paying his fair share.
There is food for thought here as we consider a new Associated Press poll which finds that two out of three Americans think the wealthy don’t pay enough federal taxes in America. At the same time, the poll reveals that six of ten respondents believe the middle class pays too much.
The rich are not only paying their fair share they are paying the share of a lot of other people. Why should the rich have to pay that much more ad why should so many pay so much less? That’s not fair. Are the taxes supposed to be fair?
This isn’t about taxes and spending so I won’t go into that. This is about credibility and the media. There is little honor and pride in the main stream media any more. The fear and the frustration that they have over Trump becoming president is obvious, but what I’m not so sure of is what’s behind the fear and frustration.
They have stopped trying to appear impartial, they are campaign operatives for Hillary. Is their desperation a function of their desire to have Hillary as president, or is it a symptom of their realization they have become impotent due to their loss of credibility?
They are no longer credible because they are no longer fair and impartial. Less than 30 percent of the voters believe them anymore.
