Senator Reid and the Low Information Voter
Senator Harry Reid, The Majority Leader of the Senate, made the following statement.
“And until they get off that kick, there’s not going to be a grand bargain,” Reid said. “There’s not going to be a small bargain. The only people who feel there shouldn’t be more [tax money] coming in to the federal government from the rich people are the Republicans in the Congress. Everybody else, including the rich people, is willing to pay more. They want to pay more.”
Why doesn’t the main stream media challenge him? Why does he get a free pass to say things that are clearly not true? The first thing he needs to define is “rich people”. I don’t make a lot of money, but every time they raise any type of tax my taxes go up, therefor I must be rich!
The next thing he must be challenged on is the statement that “Everybody else, including the rich people, [are] willing to pay more. They want to pay more.” What crystal ball did he pull that out of? Who are the rich who want to pay more? Where did he get that from?
That statement sounds like it was made up to mislead the low information voter. A bold statement like that has to be justified, it has to be confirmed.
If Senator Ted Cruz said that everyone wants to end welfare as we know it; and limit the payments to a three month payment of Ten dollars per month. Currently almost all recipients want the payments to stop NOW; the main stream media would knock him over trying to get him to substantiate that claim.
“They want to pay more” Senator Reid had the balls to tell that lie to America and the main stream media let him.
They can’t have it both ways. Are the rich cheating the tax man by hiding money in offshore banks, while begging Senator Reid to allow them to pay higher taxes? Which one is it?
Is this an outright lie made by Senator Reid designed to mislead the low information voter?
Is this less a statement of fact or just a firm belief on the part of Senator Reid because he knows a rich guy and the rich guy hasn’t slapped Senator Reid for trying to raise taxes, yet.
Is it possible that Senator Reid just misspoke when he made that statement; what he meant to say was that two wealthy people made a statement once that if they had to pay twenty dollars more a year in taxes they could probably afford it?
Perhaps it is a blend of all the possibilities. We will never know because the main stream media is only concerned with false statements made by individuals with a different point of view than the main stream media.
The term low information voter was created because too many voters do not have an adequate grasp of the facts to vote intelligently. One reason the low information voter is so poorly informed is because the main stream media allows some elected officials to make statements that appear to be false on the surface, but because they don’t want to embarrass the elected officials they let the statement pass.
The main stream media has an obligation to the low information voter. They have to filter the news and get the basic facts right. Right, wrong or indifferent, the main stream media has to get the facts out, the truth out. When a senior government official makes a statement as bold as the one Senator Reid made he must be challenged.
Back that statement up or retract it. The low information voter demands the truth from the main stream media. I don’t mind when elected empty suits lie to the voters, it’s what they do. If their lips are moving they are lying.
The main stream media is supposed to sort the facts from fiction and the exaggerations have to be cleared up. The Elected empty suits will promise us all sunshine, lollipops, and puppies. The main stream media has to sort the sunshine from the light being shined up our ass, the lollipops that are really shit on a stick, and that puppy is a baby skunk.
They are supposed to be impartial and fair and they are supposed to tell the truth. They may not lie, but they don’t always tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Their silence is deafening.
How dare they let Senator Reid get away with a statement like that!
We can bring a bad doctor into court and win a judgment against that form of incompetence, but how can we bring the main stream media to court and win a judgment against their daily journalistic incompetence.
The low information voter is the result of journalistic malpractice. Senator Reid is much less guilty of feeding misinformation to the low information voters than the main stream media is guilty professional malpractice.
If the main stream media is supposed to be the watch dog for the truth for the voters, who is the watchdog for the main stream media?
Fair and honest elections depend on the accurate and honest information; especially when some elected officials are trying to spend the country into the poor house.
