To Tax or to Spend

To Tax or to Spend

Our Super Committee failed to be adequate let alone Super. The world was watching and everyone agreed that we’re spending more money than we have. The Super Committee was formed as a result of the legislation to increase how deeply the government (and that means us the taxpayers) have to go into debt.

Why can’t elected officials understand that we have to stay within the budget that we have. The budget has to recognize how much revenue is collected. They have the revenue part down perfectly. It’s the spending part that confuses them. Perhaps it doesn’t confuse them, perhaps they need to spend to validate their existence.

First they haven’t passed a budget in more than 2 years, that’s because they don’t want to give the voting public any ammunition to chastise them for the budget they passed or failed to pass. We as the voting public need to recognize how cowardly (the cowardly lion from the Wizard of Oz had more balls than these elected weenies.) they have been and use that as the ammunition necessary to fire them.

Spending is how they earn their keep. It’s obvious that they don’t care about the voters or the taxpayers. When they are in an elected position they have to do what their string pullers tell them to do.

Money makes things happen. Special interest groups provide money for campaigns and elections. It’s also possible that some of the special interest money finds indirect ways to get into the personal consumption of some elected officials. Special interest money has an impact on how politicians think and act. Voters to have an impact on how politicians think and act. Redistributing wealth is on way that they can take care of the voters  they want to impress. Take away from the makers in the country and give it the takers may satisfy some need for social justice.

Politicians have  a need to focus on how to continue providing the gravy train, they do not seem to accept the need to stop taking. Most of the money doesn’t need to be spent. A lot of the money is spend on entitlements and that will provide a serious problem in future years. They are avoiding the opportunity to be responsible right now and minimize unnecessary spending. They are also running away from addressing the serious problem, fixing the entitlement nightmare that is only going to get worse if not addressed now.

They are no easy solutions, but we won’t get to a solution unless they can accept the need to stop spending and stop taking from us.

They have to stop taking from us and accept the fact that they MUST stop spending. They also have to stop listening to special interests and they have to face the difficult problem of entitlement spending.

When we have to vote, we have to make sure we vote for men and women who have integrity and courage. They also have to be willing to fix problems regardless of how it will impact a potential reelection.
