Begrudge Success?

 The president made this statement recently. “Now, what we’re doing, I want to be clear, we’re not trying to push financial reform because we begrudge success that’s fairly earned. I mean, I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money.”

Could he be that uninformed? Success isn’t a zero sum game. If you’re successful that doesn’t make me unsuccessful. My success does not cause someone else’s failure or lack of success. There are winners and losers in life, but winning and losing are the results of everyone’s individual efforts not the result of other people’s efforts.

Since our federal government is busy inflicting some serious taxes and other penalties for success you would think the president would want more individuals and organizations to be phenomenally successful. The more success is earned, the more potential exists for future success. None of us should ever be jealous of anyone’s success. When we notice someone who is being very successful we all need to look and see and observe that special person. How did they achieve that success, I could learn something from that person and then I can achieve some of that success myself.

When a company earns success, they’re obligated to share the success with its employees and the shareholders. More success for the organization equals more success for the individuals associated with that organization. Almost certainly the organization is punished too harshly for their success in the form of taxes and fees, but even the government reaps the reward of the organization’s success. The individual’s personal taxes punish each individual for the success of the organization, the corporate taxes punish the whole organization and the public piggy bank gets more revenues. As our elected empty suits try to misspend the public piggy bank you have to avoid running out of other people’s money. The phenomenal success of any organization helps to avoid that situation.

When a successful organization earns that kind of success, they wind up sharing the wealth. Individuals within the organization earn a good salary and some bonuses; the company spends money to advertise and to conduct business from day to day. Their success winds up being earned by a whole lot of individuals and organizations. The individuals are paying mortgages, buying groceries, paying taxes, going out to dinner, going on vacation, sending kids to college and day camp. The company providing stationary and office supplies, the computers, telephones, travel and training as well as the phone company and facilities they use to conduct business, also get a piece of the success. The larger the success the farther it is shared to those around, can you say stimulus? The real kind, of stimulus not the kind that empties the public piggy bank for no apparent reason, other than to hold a news conference and brag about the good intentions but lack of results, of a body of elected empty suits.

The bigger the success the better the stimulus. If one concern is the large salary and outrageous bonus that is paid to senior management, then let me put you at ease about them. They deserve every penny and more. If they earned that success by design or by accident, let them get a big reward and let them keep doing it, because those getting the stimulus from the success want the success to keep on happening. They deserve that sort of compensation just because they are exposed to congressional hearings for being successful in an environment created by the federal requirements that usually appear to be obstacles to their success.
