A Liberal Admits Being Wrong

A Liberal Admits Being Wrong

A liberal has written an article where he admits that maybe liberals were wrong on crime. Crime is down across the country and this is surprising in the current economic environment. They always believed that crime was caused by poverty and desperation. Conservatives always believed that crime was committed by criminals. Some one else’s bad deed is their fault not my fault.
Some people turn to a life of crime because until you get caught, the rewards are greater than a regular job. If you come from a broken home and no one taught you the value of an education, or showed you what a good work ethic was, then your skills and opportunities become limited. Without an education and without any skills you will only be offered unskilled positions and the rewards for those jobs are limited.
Drugs provide an opportunity to make a lot of money with little effort. Drugs are available in the same communities that have an unskilled population. Their families did not provide them the lessons in life that do an effective job at fighting crime. No education, no work ethic, and no ability to distinguish right from wrong. Some people call these things family values, and make fun of those who believe in these things. Some people prefer to blame society and the inequality of life in America today and blame that inequality in for the desperation that caused the crime rate.
Life isn’t fair, some people get opportunities that others don’t get. That doesn’t prevent those who didn’t get any advantage from leading a successful and honest life. We learn right from wrong at home, we learn the importance of an education at home, we learn the importance of doing a good job and holding a good job at home. Your advantage over me in life doesn’t create a disadvantage to me in life.
The crime rate is falling because Law Enforcement is learning how to combat crime in new and more sophisticated ways. Technology helps and years of experience also help, but the liberal mind set that all that is bad in the world is our fault is losing its hold over those who choose to believe everything is our fault.
Hopefully other liberal facts of life are crumbling as well. The constant redistribution of wealth never helped anyone and hurts a lot of people. If you think taking money from me and giving it to someone who doesn’t work and chooses not to work just so they can collect a check from the government, is helping anyone, then you are just as naïve as those who felt that the crime rate was high because society isn’t fair. When you create a free ride for someone they will take the free ride. How many people created false identities and collected a check under multiple names? How many people misrepresented themselves to collect a check, because they wanted the check, not because they qualified to get the check?
They had no incentive to find work and earn a living and pay taxes. It’s good enough for us, so it must be good enough for them. Generations of immigrants came to this country and work hard to raise families and then to educate the next generation so they will do better than their parents did. That’s all it takes, is one generation. How many generations are running around since the 1960’s when they created the Great Society where they shoveled money at those who would take it. They learned to depend on the check and not the job. We now have several generations of people who learned to take and not to give. Some broke free from the hold of poverty, but after trillions of dollars spent we have not eliminated or made a dent in poverty. Maybe cash is not the answer, and some family values are a better solution.
Without an education or some skills, you have a hard time getting and keeping a good job. The education and the work ethic are individual responsibilities, not public responsibilities. My ability to get a job and support myself from my hard work is my obligation not yours.
My obligation to take care of me is my responsibility not yours. I will take care of me and my family; you shouldn’t have to help me. The other side of that coin is you are responsible for you and your family, support them so I don’t have to.
Individual responsibility and self reliance, what a concept. When we vote, let’s look for people who understand this and want to use this as a guiding principle.

Vote the Bums Out,

Gino
